Aviation Medicine (AVMED)

First Aid is the skilled application of accepted principles of treatment of persons who were involved in an accident or have contracted a sudden illness, using available facilities and materials. The purpose of First Aid is to sustain life, and alleviate pain and suffering until the patient is placed under the care of a Doctor or Hospital.

Cranfield provides a one-day pilot seminar to familiarise Flight Deck crew with the conditions and protocols should a medical emergency occur on board their aircraft. This seminar includes basic CPR skills training.

In the Aviation environment, the standard of medical knowledge required by the Civil Aviation Authority for flight attendants is a Level 3 First Aid course with additional aviation specific modules included in the Abinitio 5-day program.

Flight attendants are required to undergo a 1-day recurrent training program annually.
