Safety and Emergency Procedures Training (SEPT)

The objective of the  Safety and Emergency Procedure Training (SEPT) courses is to ensure crew are equipped with the necessary skills to handle any emergency or unusual situation that can occur on-board their aircraft and that they are informed of any new regulations, procedures or equipment.

In terms of SA CAA legislation, both flight deck and cabin crew are required to undergo SEPT recurrency training annually. Crew are also required to complete a skills test on board the aircraft on which they operate.  Should they operate on more than one aircraft type, a skills test will need to be completed for each aircraft type.

Flight Deck SEPT training covers the following aspects:

  • Roles and Responsibilities
  • Communication
  • Evacuations
  • Rapid Decompression and Pressurization Problems
  • Safety Checks
  • Passenger Handling
  • Passenger Seats and Restraints
  • Cabin Baggage
  • Electronic Devices
  • Fuelling With Passengers On Board
  • Pre-Take Off and Pre-Landing Procedures
  • Emergency Procedures
  • Emergency Equipment
  • Crew Incapacitation
  • Abbreviations

Cabin Crew SEPT training includes:

  • Flight Aviation General
  • Physiology of Flight
  • Roles and Responsibilities
  • Safety Procedures
  • Emergency Procedures
  • Aircraft Specific Procedures
  • Drills
  • Pre - Flight Check
  • Pre - Take Off Check
  • Pre - Landing Check
  • Post Landing Check
  • Pilot Incapacitation Drill

Cabin Crew are required to complete a skills test on board the aircraft on which they operate.  Should they operate on more than one aircraft type, a skills test will need to be completed for each aircraft type.

  1. Flight Deck SEPT Theory only - R660:
    • Courses every Monday
  2. Cabin Crew SEPT Theory only - R750:
    • Operator and company specific - courses on request
    • Minimum of 4 delegates
  3. Cabin Crew SEPT Aircraft type Practical
    • SAAB 340 / ATR42  @ R 500.00 per aircraft type
    • B737-200 / DC-9 @ R750.00 per aircraft type
    • Minimum of four delegates
